Sunday, June 26, 2005 is recognized as the International Day Against Illicit Drug Trafficking and in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the National Council on Drug Abuse, Sandals Negril Beach Resort & Spa is organizing a Bike Ride Against Substance Abuse (BRADA) for that day commencing 8:00AM.  The race will involve recreational and Pro/Am Bike riders all over Jamaica with a very clear intent to make this a calendar event in an area that is plagued by drug trafficking and abuse.

As a charitable event, we aim to raise funds through pledges, direct sponsorship of the event and registration fees where Pro/AM entrants will pay $500.00 and recreational entrants $300.00. Additionally, we are hoping to invite celebrities and other hoteliers to enter representative groups from their respective hotels and organizations.

The race will see four different grades in the Pro/AM Category and races divided by age for the recreational rider. All races will begin and end at the Norman Manley Marine Park with PRO/AM riders racing to Lucea and back, and recreational riders, racing along the Norman Manley Boulevard. The winner of the Category 1 + 2 will receive $15,000.00 and in the 3 + 4 category, the 1st place winner will receive $8,000.00. There will also be prize money awarded to second and third place winners in these categories with trophies and medals awarded to the winners in the recreational category. The races will culminate in an awards presentation ceremony and a Rally dubbed,
"Wheels High, Hopes High, Don’t Dope I"
which will involve performances from schools in the area, participation from the Negril Chamber of Commerce, Church Action Negril, the National Council on Drug Abuse and the JHTA as well as various entertainment artistes.
