The ride on Sunday December 19th was the "BEST".......Rain, Mud, Landslides, Fog, Guts and sheer Determination over four hours was the order of the day.

Not to sound chauvinistic but we did "Real Men" stuff like fixing Andre's puncture and having to submerge the tube in one of the water filled canyons (mud water hole) on the trail to Hollywell.

It was a bit disappointing no "Biker Chicks" turned out as it would have been refreshing to also experience "Real Women" stuff with them like being drenched, changing tyres or the sounds of agony while ascending. (sorry ladies but we just have to challenge you)

The adventure to New Castle took us off the beaten track as we did the non-traditional route and went from Gordon Town via Guava Ridge, Salt Hill, Content Gap etc.

On approaching the Gap, the route was fairly flat with brief undulating hills but at the Clydesdale Road intersection the climb went ballistic and we all had to dig deep for the granny gear. The men were literally separated from the boys at this point and from here on in we followed the sweet aroma of BBQ chicken as the rest of our party (non-converts) who drove up to Hollywell, had already started the fire.

Leaford had to leave immediately as his Visa was about to expire and didn't want it revoked. He was last seen descending the cool hills from Hollywell with steam streaming off his overheated body (smile).

Another notch on the belt of the Mountaineers with lots more to come.
